Cancellation Policy

Dr. Smith honors your time by not double booking herself during your appointment time. Likewise, she asks that you not double book yourself during your appointment time. Should you do so and need to cancel, there is no fee for any changes or cancellations with greater than 48 hours notice.

If you are a new patient and you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, the cancellation fee is $50. If you are a new patient and you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, the cost of the initial appointment will be charged to the credit card that you used to reserve the appointment ($460).

If you are a returning patient and you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or do not show up for your appointment, the cancellation fee is $50.

Community Acupuncture Clinic Option

Because she recognizes that paying the out-of-pocket prices above places acupuncture beyond accessibility for many people, Dr. Smith has created a low-cost acupuncture clinic as an extension of her practice: the Community Acupuncture Clinic at Chicago Healing Center. This clinic is populated by acupuncturists that Dr. Smith knows well and trusts. The Community Acupuncture Clinic has weekend, evening and daytime hours and accepts walk-ins as well as appointments. The cost of these treatments is as follows:

New patient: $65

Return patient: $55

There are reduced rates for Medicare, Medicaid, VA, and students with valid ID.

Insurance?

Dr. Smith does not take insurance and is not under contract with any insurance companies, including Medicare. Instead, she supplies a document called a “superbill,” which has all of the diagnostic and treatment codes on it. Please refer to your insurance company’s website or telephone information line to find out how to submit a superbill for reimbursement.

Reimbursement varies greatly between insurance plans, and the best people to ask whether your insurance plan will cover acupuncture is your insurance company (telephone information line or website).

Even if your insurance plan does not cover acupuncture, it will commonly cover a portion of the “evaluation and management” code of your first visit and/or Dr. Smith’s services will apply to your out-of-network deductible.

If it is helpful to you when you call your insurance company to know the E&M and procedure codes, Dr. Smith typically bills 99203 E&M code for the initial consultation, 97810 for acupuncture, 97026 for infra-red therapy, and/or 97140 for manual manipulation.
