Gua Sha
Gua Sha
“Gua” means to scrape or rub and “sha” refers to the redness of the skin after scraping. Dr. Smith applies oil to the skin and then rubs the skin using a special tool. This opens small blood vessels and may create small bruises, or petechiae, in the skin. This technique is commonly applied when there is musculoskeletal pain or cold and flu symptoms, but can be useful in other situations as well. The petechiae usually resolve in less than 5 days, but the relief is almost always immediate.
